Smith Island Janes Island Chincoteague Lighthouse Island Hopping

This training tour will provide not only our standard beginners course but will also provide an education and interesting look at the local ecology as well.  We’ll launch our kayaks by 9:00am and cover the basic paddle strokes. After the initial training session and kayak orientation we will start the first leg of our tour.

At 10:30 we’ll paddle to Iron Point where we will take a short 12 minute nature walk to the Marsh Point Nature Center. Once there, we will see a 20 minute slide show about the Dundee & Saltpeter Creeks as well as the center itself.  On our walk back to Iron Point, we’ll be accompanied by a naturalist from the Nature Center who will continue our education of the great outdoors.  Upon returning to our kayaks we’ll paddle to a sandy location, appropriately named Sandy Point, where we'll continue with our training tour.  The additional training will cover wet exits with paddle float reentry, and T-Rescues.

We will finish the training around 3:00pm and paddle ¾ of a mile back to the put-in site.

We meet at Dundee Creek Marina at 8:30am.
