Steve & Julio's Excellent
Island Hopping Adventure is an all day
training tour that starts out at Rocky Point State Park. We’ll begin at the
small beach on the south west side of the park near the pier in Rock Creek.
After 45 minutes of basic paddling review we’ll set a course for Pleasant
Island – a 27 acre deserted island. This involves a short 1.5-mile crossing
of the Middle River to the beaches on Pleasant Island where we will break
for a snack and a stretch.
Lunch & training on a sandy beach.
Next we’ll continue the adventure with
the partial circumnavigation of Pleasure Island passing near Craighill
Channel Range Lighthouse. At 105 feet, it’s one of the tallest
structures in the Bay.
After a short ¼ mile crossing we’ll
reach Hart-Miller Island. We’ll explore the ecology of about 1 mile of
marsh shoreline before landing for lunch on the beach. The nearly 250-acre
Hart-Miller Island state park has 3000 feet of sandy beach, public rest
rooms and an observation tower. While on Hart-Miller there will be time to
eat your lunch, go wading, take a nature hike, do a little birding, or
take time for just plain ole’ relaxing. After a kayak safety skills
demonstration by your tour guides and some additional instruction for all,
we’ll set a course for a leisurely 1.25-mile paddle back to Rocky Point
State Park.
